DRAFT: For the First Time, RAY-MART to Hold Two Popup Locations on Oct. 06 and 13th in Denver: PRESS RELEASE for RAY-MART #6 & 7

Ray-Mart has arrived for the first time in Colorado and will be opening two popup locations. We invite you to participate in this immersive experience of installations by the artist and team.

DENVER, CO - OCTOBER 6 and 13th, 2017 - Ray-Mart has made it official: the alien satirical store will be opening two popup locations on Friday, Oct 6th at Dateline Art Space and Friday the 13th at The Temple in Denver for the first time. It has been over 5 years since the last show in Denver by founder Ray Young Chu.

The first opening of Ray-Mart (#6) will be at Dateline Art Space planned to be open for the first 24 hours Oct 6 starting at 5pm. The previous chronological Ray-Marts (#1-5) were all opened in Los Angeles. At Dateline, there will be a strong theme on dinosaurs. The venue will be selling Ray Young Chu Dinosaur Art including: Dino DJ, Dino Haircuts, Dino Surfers, Dinobots, Dino Laser Cat Cone, Reading Dinosnug, Baby Dinosnug and more intermingled with lizards and other bizarre items.

The second opening will be at The Temple with a theme of food and Halloween Edition on Oct, Friday the 13th. The many new smells and aromas of Ray-Mart (#7) will be there with vegan falafels by Five Points Falafel Club, Sexy Pizza, Aireloom Catering and bar proceeds will go to the Solar Panel Fund for The Temple space. Approximately 4000 sf will be filled with store items, large paintings, merchandise and things you would find at a shop for aliens.

Ray-Mart is a living organism art installation. It organically changes as people become part of the installation. One may influence the owner to add items that was not imagined previously. The store grows as it lives. Customers get the smells, tastes, sounds, and visuals of Ray-Mart. It is an immersive interactive experience feeding to all the senses.

To describe Ray-Mart, it is like a North Korean liquor pawn shop mixed with a Christian Thrift and bong store found in space. It is a human gift shop for aliens. Every single item is for sale including the shelfs and for "the right price, not the cheapest price" you can purchase the whole installation. It's not a convenient store but rather an inconvenient store. There may be many questions. They may or may not be answered. Also featuring music soundtrack by Ray-Mart. What does a store play for aliens who like human trends? This is the soundtrack by Ray-Mart.

Ray Young Chu's grandfather was a missionary from North Korea and was taken away by North Korean soldiers when his dad was six. They never saw him again. Ray was born in 1978 and raised in Thornton, Colorado when it was a small suburban town. In high school he got expelled for doing an illegal graffiti mural on the school. After high school while getting his B.F.A. for communication design from Metro State College of Denver (now University) he worked at a Nuclear power plant. During this time is when he wanted to become an overseas missionary. Years later Ray is currently living and working in Los Angeles, CA. He's not sure about the afterlife now.

Ray's art work can be seen on "Workaholics" television show, NCIS: Los Angeles and others.

"I Betcha' Got it At Ray-Mart!" - Abars

"One of the installations comes from Korean-American artist Ray Young Chu. The surreal street artist has built a full-scale version of a Korean liquor store from 1992, but replete with satire and extra-terrestrial influence (he has appropriately dubbed the piece "Ray-Mart")." - Annie Lloyd from LAist

"It's Glitchy!" - Carlos Ramirez

"It's an Inconvenience Store." - I Forget Their Name

"It's like a store for aliens but selling items for humans." - Wesley @abluerdonjuan
